What about Infant Neil?  He and his brother were feral cats found under stairs in Folsom, CA.  I got Infant Neil when he was very small.  He was shy. But after a while of living in the bathroom, where he would climb on me, I let him out.  He joined the tribe.  But I didn't continue to pick him up and make him socialized.

But as he got older it only got worse.

But when I go to bed, he's usually the first cat there and he has a loud purr.  He'll lay on the bed and I can pet him, I can pick him up.  But anywhere else, he's a wild man.
