Bob the rabbit went to the Vet today. It was a nice warm spring morning here in California. The sky was blue and the sun was warm. A nice rabbit kind of day. Bob was about 8.5 five years old. And Robert the Dog knew something was wrong.
Bob was a stalwart creature bonded at an early age with Barley. It's hard to believe Barley has been gone this long.
Bob was always first at the food bowl and enjoyed his shelled peanuts more than most. He spent his days outside soaking up the California sun. After Barley, he bonded to Rabbitboy. Rabbitboy was a loner but Bob was there for him. Now Rabbitboy is alone. Bob wasn't a digger, but he sure liked to bulldoze dirt around from place to place. He was never afraid of being picked up and didn't mind being herded back inside when his day of grazing was complete.
Even in the end Bob ate his fresh market produce. If only the licks on the head from Robert the Dog could have healed his old body. We miss him already but know his sturdy stomping footsteps up the Rainbow Bridge will be heard by all who await him. I know where he is will be free from pain and he will be able to graze on green grass forever with the rest of the crew. Good bye Bob, God speed.
"I have sent you on a journey to a land free from pain., not because I did not love you, but because I loved you too much to force you to stay. Blessed are they that mourn, for they will be comforted."
